Writing In the Dark Retreat is an annual event designed to give literary artists the chance to meet one another, derive inspiration from a guest speaker, and engage in workshop activities that focus on developing new writing skills. It takes place in January in the beautiful setting of Four Winds Foundation -- http://www.alaskafourwinds.org

• The Statewide Poetry Contest, This annual contest encourages, publicizes, and rewards the writing of high quality poetry. The contest is held in April, National Poetry month. • The Annual Dredge Poetry Festival, also held in April, takes place at Chatanika Gold Dredge owned by Patricia Peirsol and Jane Haigh.
